Apostolic Religion?

 What is the Apostolic Religion?

By Asmar Nixon

What is the apostolic religion? The world apostolic originates from the apostles who were Jesus’ disciples or followers in his lifetime. Today there are apostolic churches all over. Many students at East High attend the Apostolic Church and a few students were interviewed on some of their basic beliefs as an Apostolic.

Daniel Bryant, a student at East, says that an Apostolic is a basic follower of Jesus. Jesus was a man who is and was followed by many people as the Son of God. He was crucified and died on a cross in the remission of our sins. We follow him as a perfect example of what a person should live like (without sin). Jesus was also believed to have been resurrected three days after his death and as he appeared to his disciples, he gave them a message that he would be sending down a helper known as the Holy Ghost.

What is the Holy Ghost? Sophomore Pat Lyons says that the Holy Ghost or the Spirit of God is the gift that we receive from God after being baptized in Jesus name. The Holy Ghost acts as a helper in stopping sins.

What does having the Holy Ghost and the stopping of sins mean? The stopping of sins with the Holy Ghost means to live life according to the commandments and regulations given by the Bible. Every Christian bases his life around Jesus Christ, the only man ever to be born and walk the Earth completely without sin. Jesus symbolizes what every man should be like and everyday we strive to be more life him. Receiving the Holy Ghost means taking one more step towards becoming more like him. With the gift of the Holy Ghost comes salvation. Salvation means being delivered from hell. Salvation is the gift given to those who choose to accept Christ and follow the rules given by his disciples in Acts 2:38, "Repent and be ye baptized everyone of you in the remission of sins and thou shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." In the apostolic religion these rules must be followed on order for a person to achieve salivation.

What does baptism mean? Baptism is a symbolic ceremony that represents the washing away of sin. In the Apostolic Religion one must become baptized in the name of Jesus Christ to enter in to heaven. In the book of John, Chapter 3,Verse 3 through 5, Jesus says, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Also in verse 5 he states, "Verily, verily I say unto thee except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." Being born of water means baptism and of the spirit means the Holy Ghost. Without these two, according to the Apostolic religion and the Holy Bible, you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.

There is a lot more to becoming a saint (someone who has received the Holy Ghost according to the apostolic religion) is more than just receiving the Holy Ghost. It is a way of life. Jesus, the living commandment, gives us commandments in the Bible on how to get through day to day life. The rules and regulations established by Jesus are very easy to follow. Books such as Proverbs and Psalms in the Bible help by giving examples of how to stay within the law.
